These monuments, both grandiose and unusual, were made by Hannsjoerg Voth, a German artist born in 1940, who began his work on the “Celestial Staircase” in 1980, those of the “Golden Spiral” in 1993 and the “Cité d ‘Orion” in 1998. Voth spent 20 years creating his magnum opus, a trio of monumental edifices on the scorched Marha Plain in southeastern Morocco. These three gigantic sculptures stand in the middle of the desert in the plain of Marha, a few kilometers from the oasis of Fezna. It is impossible to give a faithful idea of the impression left by his works.
